Wait a minute ... so this is saying that in the near future all harddrives will have DRMs built into them as a part of the firmware ? ... Looks like I'll have to start looking to buy my last computer ... the last free HDD at least ... maybe I'll buy all the free HDDs now and sell em later for millions each ...

... assuming the government starts forbidding the use of free HDDs. Like prohibition ...

On another note

DRM pens could actually be possible. A computer chip placed inside the pen, and sesnors track how the roller-ball is moving and if it sees you writing down copytighted stuff it could lock the ball from moving...

I like fountain pens more than ballpoints ... there's more friction, making it easier to write nicely ... for me at least

People are going to get so pissed off at this. Some people actually OWN the music they play (like me) and will get supremely pissed at having something try to keep the legal copyrighted stuff off.

Besides, how will it work? Hook up to the 'net and download a database of every copyrighted thing? Since it will have to store some data on the "illegal" files, someone will find a crack to actually have that software download all the "illegal files". And for those who can, just unplug the modem and use the machine for playing games, and get into the printing industry. :rolleyes:

However, if it goes through, I will personally torch every electronics store within 5 miles that sels the shit.

Computers are going backwards. Play movies in higher quality, then get sued for playing movies in high quality. Copy movies to a hdd, then get sued for piracy. Open Source is going to be illigal soon (i wouldnt doubt it) because it hurts M$'s earnings by like a billion a year, which is really not much compared to what the slags make (

64-bit computing and SSE2/3 are more to be feared. If new copyright material is produced in high quality encrypted 64-bit only with a copyprotect flag (no IDE redirect) enforced on the mobo by firmware, then you might not even be able to play it on 32-bit computers, much less crack and copy it.

Pirates will have to have nice camcorders to film what they want to pass around.
