You have to gauge their intellectual levels to. In summary, being a script kiddy just got easier.

And of course there going to be higher numbers of Windows, that's what happens when that's all you can get preinstalled on a computer from a computer store.  However, the number of Linux and Mac copies are definitely on the rise.  And there are signs that preinstalled Linux may be coming.  And there really is no way to "count" the copies of Linux floating around anyway.  Sure you can count the copies that are bought in a store, and the copies that are downloaded but there is nothing to prevent you from getting a copy of Linux and installing that one copy on hundreds of computers, like what usually happens.  The copy I download is probably used on between 50 and 100 machines alone.

I personally feel zombie is a kindred spirit who desires a non-MS future, but isn't feeling very hopeful due to all the people that Microsoft keeps enslaving... Unless I fell for that one hook, like and sinker.

What the article says is that there were 46 million licenses sold. That's a whole 'nother kettle of fish. Due to the extortion of the OEMs, get a new system, get XP. That counts for a license sale. However, there is no guarantee that XP actually stayed on those machines. My neighbor bought his family a new Sony Vaio that came with XP several months ago. Since then, he and his wife became so disgusted with it that they finally decided to take my advice. Perhaps her losing a report she needed to submit for the last class she needed to pass for graduation had something to do with it?    

Losing two week's worth of work, having to stay up all night getting ready for an 8:00AM class, really puts these things in perspective. After that, they asked me to install Mandrake for them: completely, no dual booting, a complete 'Drake install. So make that 45,999,999 XP users

Also note the subject says "sales", not "copies currently in use".  All M$ cares about is sales anyway.  They don't care if anyone uses their crap as long as they can sell a luser a copy.

Ah, but if were talking about MS controlled futures then don't forget about all the W95/98/W2000/ME/NT machines too. So what if alot of users switched to Linux, there is probably tons of non-XP wind0ze users.

But the subject is about XP.  No one is seriously trying to say that there is anything but a tiny fraction of Linux users out there.  You'ld have to be pretty stupid to think otherwise.  However, it is entirely possible/probable that there are fewer XP users than the "copies sold" number. And it is also probable that the number of copies of "Linux in use" is much higher than any statistic would show because there is no way to track how many copies are in use.  It also seems from every indication that Linux is steadily and exponentially becoming more popular. You can't say that for Windows as they already have nearly 100% of the market.

EXCELLENT analogy; my personal favorite artist (and one of my favorite human beings!!) Frank Zappa only had 2 songs that ever got ANY popular notice (Valley Girl was a minor hit), but he was more of a musician than 99% of the so-called artists that ever got a Grammy!

This mentions how MS has 26% of the market share and how 60% of defaced websites are windows based.(Could someone do some math stuff to determine how much more % vunerable windows servers are compared to non windows)

The point here is not the lack of MS security. The point is that there is HORDES of websites on the internet, and 74% of them belong to non-wind0ze servers. Even if there not all Linux, woulden't these numbers indicate a huge amount of Linux servers nonetheless? That's alot of "copies".
