I've received it too, and although I'm keeping Slackware, I found Ubuntu pretty good.

You should install it.

I have it installed alongside XP 64 bit (hate xp) and it;s great. I like apt-get, I know it's in debian aswell.
Windows XP Service Pack 2. Because we couldn't be arsed the first time.

Windows 98 Second Edition. Look, now you don't need that bloody CD to install new hardware.

Windows Vista. Even your computer knows you have a small penis.

Windows Blackcomb. We are planning the OS after Vista, which is allready a year late.

Windows ME, the Marmite Operating System.

XP Mobile. Take your errors with you.

Doesn't matter.

What matters is that you create a primary ext3 partition on your slave disc (swap, boot, etc. included of course).

The problem with Ubuntu is that most of the commands are different from other distros sudo instead of su ... and others ... other than that it's pretty good.

sudo is not a command, sudo is a secure root-access library.  su is the command used by users in group:wheel to access root functions.  Both can coexist, and do on either of my primary systems.

It runs well although installing software on it blows but that's just my experiance with Linux in general.

How, can it blow? "dpkg -i <.deb location>" will install a deb package. Alien will install RPM;s and others i think and apt-get install apache2, php4, php4-mysql lib-apache2-mysql mysql-server mysql vsftpd dovecot sendmail will install the packages needed for a simple server. It's the easyest distro to install stuff on.

They are the best bet on making linux mainstream.

But I bet $100 that the first linux virus will be spread by ubuntu users.

I'll bet $ 1,000 the first linux virus will be detected and systems patched before any significant damage is done.

I was pretty much a windows drone all my life, until about a month ago, my hardware went to shit, I got bored and installed Ubuntu 5.04, updated and installed KDE... and now it's my primary OS. The only thing keeping me from completely ditching Windows is certain essential TTF fonts not properly working in Photoshop under Crossover Office... Ubuntu may take a certain amount of getting used to, but it certainly beats the living shit out of Win9x.

The problem with Ubuntu is that most of the commands are different from other distros sudo instead of su ... and others ... other than that it's pretty good.

The Ubuntu developers decided (and rightly so) that having a seperate "administrator" account called some foreign term like "root" would confuse most freshly Windowsified (definition: sick and fucking sick of M$) desktop users. They decided that sudo served most any purpose a typical GUI-user might have. They made it so that the root account was hidden (still existing) yet not a loginable account.

Solution? $ sudo passwd

DONE! YAY!! heehee now all you have to do is login as root and set the icons otherwise they ALL (folders, documents, script, pics, vids, etc.) default to blank page pixmaps when you su or sudo into nautilus or transversely you could copy .gnome from your home directory into /root.
