It seems to me that it's a privilige issue on Ubuntu, but I've not handled shares so I couldn't say how to fix it. :(

Ahh, well I've reformatted and slapped a windows (:|) partition in there, and it seems to work decently with networking.

I think I'll just wait until the next release of ubuntu to try networking with it again, or try out some of these live CDs I have.
