mybe it's just a legal checking of the block. They only intend to support ODF on the newest MS Office just so they can say they conform to standarization? No plugin for older office versions or even availability to cross platform...no upgrade, update or even support...And why not, because we want to keep them inside the little box that is MS, that's why not...And by the way stoppid consumer, you're not smart enough to know what's best for your computer...trust us, we'll take good care of you, just give us all your bank #'s, adresses, credit card and ATM #s and we'll all get along fine!

Microsoft will do everything they can to look like they care for customers needs while caring for their own. The plugin is only so businesses that need to use the ODF format won't shift to Open Office.

What needs to be developed (it may already be so..) is a mass document converter so companies can mirror all MS format files as ODF, use the ODF as standard and keep the MS files as backups (in case of conversion problems). This would make the transition as seemless as possible.

What MS has to be aware of is if the plugin is not perfect and a business has to release a document in ODF they will use OpenOffice to make sure its compatible rather than risk having to reformat the document after the plugin has its way with it.

Hell I can't really think of any point for this plugin... if you want an ODF document use OpenOffice... then you're garanteed compatibility and the result will look the same out side the editor.
