Dark_Me:
Oi! Don't knock Notepad! That's some quality 1995 programming there! And on a more serious note, I like the simplicity of Notepad.

Orethrius:
I take more offence at that "Wine users" knock myself.
God forbid anyone should make a stop-gap for users that want certain unduplicated apps (certain games come to mind) and developers that care more for squeezing blood from a turnip than actually listening to their users (and by that I don't mean the mindless droves brainwashed into accepting Windows).

Calum:
i was that stop gap user for a good while (a couple of years) and wine did nothing to help the transition from windows to linux. if anything it wasted hours upon hours of my life in meaningless frustration and wasted download bandwidth. i am not saying anything about the quality of the software or developers, however i would seriously question the basic premise behind it as a viable method for acheiving any goal whatsoever. It is faintly possible that it helps mollycoddle those people who think an OS is for playing games on, and they can play their expensive games CDs under linux that usually run only under windows but what i say is why did those people stupidly lash out on windows only software in the first place? people who do this should use windows because when they bought the software they knew the risks.

regarding notepad, if i want its functionality i use gedit (although for quick text editing i use vi for preference), i find gedit has a nicer interface (again it's personal preference) than notepad, but more crucially gedit has *never* exited while i am in the middle of doing something, and i can't say the same for notepad.

H_TeXMeX_H:
most of the apps provided by M$ for Window$ are a joke. Especially notepad.

Aloone_Jonez:
Wine has improved a lot in the last couple of years, so much so that it's actually easier to just install the Windows version of OO.O rather than fixing the darn Ubuntu package manager!

About notepad, the origional post reffered to Notepad2 which is a thrid party enhanced text editor adn has nothing to do with MS Notepad.
