I beat emos
« on: 29 November 2008, 03:08 »
I got an mpx player at Office Depot on clearance for $28. It's a voice recorder, FM radio (play and record from), 2 GB usb drive, jpg/bmp slideshow player, SigmaTel video (not mp4) player, mp3 player and supposedly can play drm'ed Windows Media Audio.

It was made in Germany and used to be called iBeat Blaxx. Yeah, say that out loud. They changed the name to iBeat Emo. I guess it's okay to beat emo's.

SigmaTel video is a bunch of jpegs strung together with mp3 audio. It's not very efficient. The jpegs have to be padded to a standard size so the hardware can direct show pass them through to the display.

There is no smv converter that works native on a mac, but the transcoder does work in VPC Win2000 if you update the DirectX and add the K-Lite codec pack. If the WMP can play the original file, then the transcoder can make an smv out of it.

If anyone here knows of an smv converter that works native in OSX, I would like to try it.
