Backdoors to Windows: Stupidity or conspiracy?
« on: 26 July 2002, 23:19 »
We all know there's a bunch of backdoors into Windows that hackers can take advantage of and screw you up bad.  The first thing that comes to mind is that Microsoft's coders have gotten rusty, bery rusty, and the backdoors are unintentional.  These backdoors are like the .NET BS where some asshole can take your credit card number or steal your identity.

BUT here's a theory:  Maybe M$ codec those security holes on purpose.  Why?

http://news.com.com/2100-1023-945923.html?tag=fd_lede

Because there's alot of guys like M$/Hollywood/Recording studios who wanna know what you've got on you harddrive, and then lock you up if it belongs to them somehow.  Maybe M$ codec those backdoors to allow these assholes to check up on you real easy - without having to actually get off their fat asses and learn some real hacking skills.  And then Microsoft get a bit less heat from their scandals.

What's next ? Temporary deafness to stop you hearing music ? Temporary blindness to stop you watching a movie ? This is madness. It won't pass anyway.

This has further reaches than you imply -- consider the TCPA / Palladium / DRM OS push; this effectively gives a braod catagory of companies (entertainment providers) the right to enter and disable your computer with no worry of retribution...  Fisk Attaway was mentioned in the article....  you do the math.

I'm putting up an anti-tcpa site today; i've been toying with it for a while... it's nothing special yet, just a  few links.... lemme know what you think of it....

I'm also considering putting together an informal association of people who are willing to see this thing die.... but i have no idea how to get started.

anyway, later...

that does make sense. owell, somebody has to make a controversia out of this shit, like get sent to court and whip your dick out and tell rosen to suck it and to shove the dmca up her ass, and that while there at it, go down to dc and piss on the constitition

it wouldn't get you anything but locked up, but it would bring public awarness up, but probably in the wrong way

that probably will not be a problem.  furthermore, anyone hacked will psue and win and reverse any bullshit.

the tcpa is the real issue here.  you won't have any copyrighted content because your processor will not execute anything that fritz don't like.
just that you do not take an interest in politics does not mean that politics will not take an interest in you.  -pericles 430 b.c.

i would have to think its both. microsoft programers missing code or not putting it in there and purposfully making holes just for them, such as being able to know what movie you watch etc. but i don't know much about hacking programing or the sort.its just a thought

The problem is...

I doubt that the guys prosecuting you would allow you to get permission to sue them.  And where do you think the info that WMP8 collects goes to?  Scary.

and the main problem is that the non technical people arn't gonna give a shit cuase there gonna think

"so my privacy to stop those evil pirates"

but they just don't get the fact that this is the middle stage of taking our rights away, like i live in america, the dmca was the first. there gonna make it look like security. cuase i heard someone say at the airport

"ill do anything for my safty"

i almost said bullshit lady, have you guys heard about the xray machine that takes nude pictures. i am not fucking joking here, watch cyber crime on techtv, great show.

but the problem is, is that normal people are going to agree cuase they are too fucking dumb to see the context that these laws are going to be used in

what was that phrase,

power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutly

and i told my dad about the issue, and he said, petition and try to get the laws changed, he still goes by the old assumption that voting counts, not when congress has been bought. why do you think that laws like the dmca was passed and they are getting ready to pass laws that allow big busniss to voilate the constitution. you have no power, there is no power but there power, we are already hopeless in this situation, how are the jobs in canada?

as for what to do, sit and watch them piss your rights away for the almighty dollar cause there nothging you can do

Canada r0x0rs. Im sure you can find a job.

So woulden't it be possible for some extremely talented hackers to "lure" one of these watch dogs into attempting to disable their computer? But the computer only appears like another "idiot" computer and can be used to counter-hack the "watchdogs" computer and do some serious damage?

You gonna let hollywood and corporations push you around? I hope there is hackers out there on the net who want to do something about this... if this plan actually goes through. Is there a possible underground who could fight such battles if need be, or do those who are masters of the computer perfer to just sit back and be powerless ghosts?(hopefully not)

All this talk about our future going to pot in this thread is scary. It just makes ya want to bury your head in the sand and say "this is not happening!".

We all shall suffer for the decisions of the stupid majorities in our world, and perhaps we are so outnumbered by the stupid that no effort on our part could ever change the future.

Exactly!  Every time a bill like this comes along, people not only let liberals/RIAA/MPAA rake away their rights, but they even demand it.  Just like guns.  Instead of getting off their fat asses and buying a gun to protect themselves, they just make sure nobody else has a gun to shoot them.  But guess what...  bad guys can still get guns!  Now the stupids idiots got no fucking guns to protect their own asses!

Same thing with this whole anti-piracy bullshit.  On TV you'll always here about "Is the MP3 destroying the music industry?" or "Soon there will be no music at all!"  Okay, KaZaA does hurt the economy and piracy is bad.  But do we have to put up with this legislative bullshit?  I still haven't heard anything about the CBDTPA on the 6 'oclock news, and now this comes up.  That is how this will get passed.  The people will never hear about it, unless they use the internet.  But remember anybody who uses the internet must be an evil person who may of downloaded an MP3 and he's the enemy!  Bill Clinton sucks ass because he signed the DMCA.  If George Bush signes this piece of shit, then everything on SNL about him is true!

Lol, after reading some threads recently I must change my words! In my previous post replace "hackers" with "crackers". However the crackers will be more like freedom fighters in this case so they deserve to be viewed with more respect, hell the "hackers" should join forces with them too!

Anyways, my personal theory is that Canada has an incompetent government. US has an incompetent governement that is very dangerous to it's citizens. Canada's incompetent government only does irratating BS things but never really seems to get wierd ideas for retard bills and such.
