Win-XP Search Assistant silently downloads files

well, my modem still doesn't work with linux (i was thinking of getting e real external one, but where's the challenge there?) so at the moment i am still using windows for the internet. Zonealarm seems to hold its own as bog standard free firewalls go, and i disabled the narky windows update yesterday, it seemed very surprised in its dialog box that i NEVER wanted to be reminded to update my system... I already have the update from a few months ago, i suspect that's what buggered my CDwriter...
Still looking for a good free antivirus scanner for use in windows though, only temporary i'm sure till i get my modem online....

and yes, i am NOT using XP. that would be just too pathetic.
