All Things Microsoft > Microsoft Software
windows longhorn vs close minded people

Ok Faust, I'm glad to see I'm not on your bad side. I'd love to be able to have a Linux comp and know how to work it to a Tee but for now I'll work with what I have. I will sooner or later changeover.
I fully support the cause of this website, there's no doubt about it.

You guys really have to stop with the whole thing of "oh it's insecure". I'll put the security of my computer against your computer any day of the week.
About MS not patching stuff as fast as Linux, that's only a bit true. Look at the speeds for patching.

Linux is only 2 million lines of code while Windows is over 20 million. We should expect Windows to have 10x as many errors that year right? Well according to that test, they only had double. Wouldn't that mean Linux has more bugs per line of code than Windows does?

That's right they don't care, and why should they care ? We use complex appliances everyday without knowing how they work or are configured.
The problem with the PC is not the operating system, it is the nature of the appliance itself. The home consumer needs a device that works like the TV. Sitting on their fat ass using a remote control to do a few simple things. Play a movie/CD send/receive e-mail browse the internet for porn mostly. The PC is too complex an appliance for this. Someone who goes to COmp-USA and spends $2,500 dollars on a computer to perform these functions is out of their fucking mind. The lat thing I want to do when I want to play a CD is use a PC. People are caught up in the gadgetry of it all. Once people can browse the intrenet via their TV, the home consumer will be happy.
People are just too dumb for PCs. Ask anyone that has manned the phones at a helpdesk. It's not even difficult stuff, my 4 year old is more PC savvy than some of the fuckwits we issue laptops to.
It's been a bad fucking day, Microsoft are a fucking liability

Linux is only 5 million (Laukev we stand corrected) lines of code while Windows is over 20 million. We should expect Windows to have 10x as many errors that year right? Well according to that test, they only had double. Wouldn't that mean Linux has more bugs per line of code than Windows does?

Hmmmm, 15 million of which shouldn't be there. M$ is proud owner of 83% of the worms, virii and bugs out there. Insecurity is just the manifestation of a third rate product that by all rights probably wouldn't be sold if it were any other industry.
I'm afraid the number of bugs isn't really the issue, it's the quality of work that counts, even patches that are released are crafted to same standards. M$ of course thinks it's exempt from standards.
The devil is in the detail.
Also having 20 million lines of code is nothing to be proud.

Erm, no. First, that's 5 million lines of code. Second, you are comparing the Linux kernel with the whole Windows system, which includes drivers, .net, Explorer and the user interface. Linux is just a small part of OS, and doesn't include the GNU system and the applications bundled with it. A better comparison would be Microsoft Windows versus Red Hat Linux or another distribution.
