Can you prove to my brother that XP sucks more then W98?
lazygamer:
Well can you? Him and me both possess very late beta versions of WinXP professional edition. He thinks it's faster, less buggy and more stable then Windows 98. He's not a dumb windows zombie, he's not a computer newbie.
Lucky for him, he is very fascinated by Linux and is quite interested in my constant persistence in getting teh L on my system(and he thinks Mandrake sounds like a c00l name).
Give some l33t in-depth essays about why W98 pwns XP, and I'll show him the thread.
See you guys keep saying XP sux so...
voidmain:
I'm sure it will be proven that they both suck more than the intake on an F-16.
Zombie9920:
WindowsXP doesn't suck more than Windows 98. Fact, the NT Kernel is alot more reliable than the 9x Kernel. Windows XP looks better and has more GUI capabilites than Win9x, it is faster on modern systems, it will continue to recieve updates and SP's. New Windows 98 updates have been axed now(meaning the only updates you will get are the old ones that are already available). MS has even tried to encourage hardware developers to quit writing Win98 drivers(thier answer to that is to write drivers for WinME and tell 98 users to use the ME drivers, LoL).

yadda yadda yadda, blah blah blah. thanks, zombie54274567.
Well, the real test is, dual boot, get used to both systems for a few months and then see what you yourself think.
If you only have windows, then how will you ever know? (is my advice tto your brother) linux does not cost anything, so what has he got to lose?
if he will not dual boot then he is simply a coward, sorry to say.
DC:
Win XP IS better than Win 98 (generally speaking, it isn't better in *all* aspects).
The general design of WinNT is just *much* better than 98 (OK, they did a shitty job actually implementing it, but that doesn't stop it being better than Win98) (actually the bare NT isn't that bad - it's the compatibility stuff (with all earlier versions - yes ALL. WinXP has some 3.11 code) that fucks it up. Too bad you can't lose that).
2 reasons not to compare with Linux/Unix:
1) *nix is off the chart with a comparison to Win - it has (good) stuff WinXP still doesn't, and had it since the 80's.
2) This is a MS WinOS forum, and a Win topic.
