Can you prove to my brother that XP sucks more then W98?

See you guys keep saying XP sux so..

It's not all that hard to do, but it is somewhat involved:
[*]Do a clean install of Win XP and Win 98 on two different machines. Now start up both of them. Which one demands to be "activated"?[*]Take a good look at each one's desktop. Then ask which one looks most like that of a toy computer called "My First PC"?[*]Connect both to the Internet. Which one constantly nags you to sign up for a "Passport", even though you've already told it "No"?[*]Connect both to the 'Net via a proxy or hardware firewall. Which one keeps trying to connect to www.microsoft.com, even though you have no intention to browse that domain?[*]Play a CD or DVD in either's media player. Which one immediately "phones home"?[*]Swap out some hard, such as an HD or mobo. Reboot. Which one demands to be "activated" once again?
[/list]Then ask him: which one SUX the most? It shouldn't be too hard to figure that one out.

OTOH, why not just skip all the bother, and get him to install Mandrake? Then he won't have to worry about whether or not Win XP sux more than Win 98.   ;)

I think XP is better than 98. The activation can be annoying, but I (and most other people) don't change their hardware that much, so the re-activation isn't really a problem for me. And when it bugged me for the passport thing, i just clicked cancel or something (i can't remember exactly what) and it went away. I must admit, though, that at the moment I'm using windows 2000 professional out of necessity for work.

Actually, my brother thinks that the professional edition would lack the MS BS because it's being used by corporate dudes who don't want to put up with that shit(and are paying alot more). Correct?

Ok it says I have Microsoft XP professional version 2002. Actually, it seems so far it may be better then W98.

Ok I don't believe my XP had any problems with passport nagging, it's sure as hell is not nagging me right now. Either it never nagged, or my brother disabled it somehow.

Media player spyware? How do I tell?

Luckily mine totally lacks activation at all as once again... late beta.

More interesting, my bro was able to 100% update my XP with no problems.  :D

choasforages:
professinal doesn't lack the passport bullshit. it keeped on bothreing me when i was tryijngto fix my friends computer,/*its mb is toast anyway*/ and it wouldn't go away

lazygamer:
Lol I see what you mean, I had to send receive a file from my brother 1hr ago. ICQ doesn't work without re-installing, so let's just use messenger. HEY! It comes pre-installed! Talk about a time saver. Ok boot up messenger. No thanks, I'll pass on the passport. WTF, I said NO! Oh well, might as well use my now shitty hotmail account(thanks a million for showing me it's errors) for this. At least they didn't require me to actually open up my Hotmail and send back some gay confirm message.

So your right, passport BS is here. But the total lack of that activation BS rocks!

PS:I know some people on messenger, any non-MS program that can emulatate messenger?
