They have all the image designing software you'll need in Linux... Try using Gimp.

TheQuirk: personally, i dont like the structure of the Mac OS. Also working with them in school for the last 3 years, i've actually had more crashes then with a Windows OS. I've tried Linux and found it to be very stable, but as i said, non of the software i use is supported in the Linux OS.
ManiaMan: how could you say that? photoshop is the industry standard for a reason. photoshop is not like windows, its the most popular because non surpasses it. check out www.lockjaw.net to see what i mean. that kind of graphic design can only be done with photoshop or quark

From someone who has also done a lot of multitrack recording work I have to agree that there isn't a lot to choose from in this area in Linux. I wish there was because I had *massive* problems running any multitrack software in Windows. Lockups and corruption could occur at any moment. We can hope that one day some great apps will make their way to Linux (they may be coming but I have been out of the recording loop for a few years now).
On the other hand I would submit that Linux provides a great graphics design platform. You obviously have plenty of experience with Photoshop and Quark but The Gimp is a plenty powerful graphics package. And there are many other tools provided that make graphics manipulation a breeze. Here is a small sampling of graphics created with The Gimp:
