I'd try asking here.

almost, your link was wrong. this is a good site to ask questions. because it doesnt just give you a workaround, it actually helps to SOLVE the problem, and in this case, the problem is the software, OutlookExpress. and the only solution is to use something else. That is the nature of Microsoft products, there is no fixing it, if something doesn't work, reinstall it. But then the problem is not solved, only temporarily hidden, only to show itself again in a few days. Yeah, the best solution is to use software that was written well, and is not tied so closely to the operating system.

If you have to use Windows, at least try not to use Lookout Express and go for another mail client, preferrably Mozilla Mail.   ;)

surely these people are not claiming that i need to have microsoft windows to run PC programs are they?

yeah well the difference is that i've got my tongue firmly in cheek the whole time! still, tofay's 'what pisses calum off' theme does seem to be people hijacking the term 'PC' and applying it wrongly to things...

But really PC's suck, running any OS, even if the os source code was
Code: [Select]
it would still crash unbareably.

could that seriously be compiled into a standalone system? i don't see any bootstrapping code in there, so it wouldn't crash, but unsurprisingly it wouldn't start up either. still, that would go for any piece of hardware you tried to run that 'OS' on... that code is a prefect leveller in fact, it's an operating system that puts a Cray on the same level as a 3 lb block of cheese!

That code won't even compile, unless you add a semicolon after the "(x = 0)". It runs fine on my PC after doing that BTW. And I suspect you really meant "x == 0" and not "x = 0" in which case something like this would have been better:

Code: [Select]

or even better:

Code: [Select]

or possibly even better (since it will never return anyway unless you break out of it):

Code: [Select]
