i had problems with red hat 6.1. what i did was to run the live evaluation of suse 8.1 to see if hardware would be an issue. it turns out that red hat 6.1 was older and less comprehensive on newer drivers.
so my suggestion is try a newer version of red hat or suse to see if your going to have more hardware probs.

Okay... so the consensus seems to be that I should try the latest version of Red Hat as a solution to the hardware issues I ran into with an earlier version.  Thanks, I'll give it a try.
