A Linux Suggestion needed...
AlexMax:
OK, I am currently running a AMD 400 megahertz computer with 64 megs of RAM and an 8 gig hard drive. I am currently anguishing through Windows 98, and need LIBERATION!
What do you guys suggest I use as a distro? I need something that is functional, can work with a cable mode. I also need a suggestion for a window manager, as I don't want something like Gnome or KDE which (from what I understand, I might be wrong) gobbles up resources.
Any suggestions? And what do you guys suggest for nondestructive repartitioning?
voidmain:
1) RedHat 7.3
2) Partition Magic, FIPS, etc
3) KDE 3.0, WindowMaker
Of course this question has been asked over and over. And you are likely going to get the same answers over and over. You can select your Window Manager at login time. On a RedHat install you should have the option to log in to KDE, Gnome, or WindowMaker, and of course you can install more.
Master of Reality:
KDE 3.0 runs goodish with 64 MB RAM... although I am now running it with 96 MB and it runs fine. I am using a 1000MHZ AMD Duron though.
choasforages:
on my 400mhz amd machine kde runs fine, even with mosfets liquid theme install, however windowmaker is even quicker and still looks cool, and i would also go with redhat 7.3
Master of Reality:
liquid?.... theme?...with??? where did you get a liquid theme?
