How do you tell if its PCI?

Internal modems are usually PCI modems. If it's connected through a PCI slot then it's a PCI modem. It could also be an ISA one. You could also visit Mandrake's site and search their hardware database for supported hardware.

Serial or USB?
voidmain:
Does your modem connect to a serial port or a USB port? If you got a dial tone then I would say you have a 100% chance of being able to make it work. But probably a 0% chance of getting connected to AOL, unless of course they have recently released a Linux version of their software.

is there another way? can i get free internet access? damn =\
