choasforages:
aw yeah, the optimized version is great on my 400mhz system. now if only i could get somemore divx to enjoy, or a dvd drive to use.

owell, i think i will actally go see the new lord of the rings movie that comiong out soon. and i might purchase it on dvd.

now on mplayer. it kicks ass, im just wondering how do i set mozilla up to use it instead of xine.

Kat:
I installed the Divx 5 codec and can play my Divx 4 and 5 vids fine. It is just when i play stuff encoded with 3.11a that i get picture, but no sound(codec problem).  I guess i will install mplayer when i reinstall Linux and see what happens. I have to install nvidia drivers before anything else, so i guess that will be a sort of a practice(because everyone says the rpms for those suck).

Calum:
any good links for installing DivX properly on linux? i am all at sea and cannot find any good info on how to do this at divx.com, which pisses me off since they give out a fully functional dumbass installer and even a free avi player for WINDOWS...

so any good links? (and not that doom9 site, it has already told me where to stuff my linux on the message boards)

thanks...............

Kat:
It should come with a Readme(you can open it in Openoffice). If i remember correctly you su into the directory(after unzipping it) and type something like ./ install.sh. I didn't install it to anywhere particular, but it worked.
If you want to double check, there is a Linux forum there: http://forums.divx.com/viewforum.php?forum=15
