Samba help, i really wanna get this done.

(1/5) > >>

Doogee:
ive been meaning to get samba up and going but im having trouble kinda grasping how its done.

Do i need to setup Linux as a WinNT server? because i go through an ADSL router and i dont know if it would work.

Do i need to setup samba clients on the win98se boxes?

HOW DO I DO IT

Doogee:
these computers are already networked, isnt there some easier way, i just want to be able to be seen in network neghbourhood to share files and stuff.

I do not understand a word of that guide you linked to, x11.

Doogee:
cant you tell im totally retarded, will all this stuff work with the ADSL router? should i set it to point to the roters IP adress instead of individual machines (i dont know where to do this but am i on the right track?)

Doogee:
yeah i read it, but dont get it.

is that all i need to change? the computers on the network are all 10.0.0.x IPs dont i need to say this somewhere? why the hell cant you just start the thing and it all works. surely linux would be able to detect windows machines on a network.

also what is with the passwords and accounts crap why do i need to make a server on my computer or something like that? i just want to be able to share files as if this computer was another win98se box. i dont want everyone logging onto my computer.

KernelPanic:
We're missing a crucial piece of info, what are you using samba for?
Could you knock up a network diagram in the GIMP?
