well if the interface is your only barrier than thats great! I recommend RedHat or Mandrake.

I don't know how to install these - however it will involve (gasp) the terminal window

also that xpde prolly wouldn't make linux any easier.
also you'd have to install it.
AND Gnome and KDE are great desktops, try them our first
