Hi All,

I just finished installing apt-get and synaptic for Red Hat 8! WOW!!! I had the apt-get for RH 6.2 which was nice, but with synaptic in RH8 added... what can I say, this is great stuff!!

This is the kind of stuff Linux needs to drive the last nails into the coffin of M$ and Windows.

Void main, thanks for posting the links a while back.

Creedon, thanks for expounding at length on the advantages of Debian's apt-get over RH rpm.

This really is a keeper!

ok... sorry.  been sipping lots and having fun torturing my new Linux box. Damn, I love beer and Linux!

Hey void X11,

You're not a distro snob are you?  I was a bit set back the other day when one of my former students gave me crap for running Red Hat 8.  I gave him his first Unix computer. It was just an old MicroVax running Ultrix but he really wanted it.I was more into VMS at the time and had my Alpha so I gave it to him. Besides I still had my SunOS5 account (yeah, this was a while back). But now he's dumping on me for running what he calls commercialized bloatware. He's running some flavor of BSD.

Distro snobbery can only hurt "The Cause" and give support to the windroids of the world.  Prefer your flavor, but give the others respect.

Or so it said on the bottom of the last beer bottle  :)

Your student must have been brainwashed by those BSDers.    Many people who run BSD have a severe hate for anything Linux, not just Red Hat. I don't know what the big deal is, I run them both. I just think Linux is easier on the n00b but yet is still UNIX underneath (even though GNU is not UNIX).

UNIX DAMNIT!!!
im trying to get my hands on machines that run different kinds of unix then the normal ones i mess with everyday/*NetBSD and Linux, NetBSD for the stable server, and linux for the desktop*/ i want an sgi indy so i can screwaround with irix, and a dec box, so i can mess with Tru64, a sun box to use solaris on. and a 486 and a copy of xenix

voidmain:
As far as Slowaris you can download the x86 version from Sun. Then you don't need to get another box. Of course it is slightly different on a Sparc when it comes to booting and low level drivers, etc...
