As far as Slowaris you can download the x86 version from Sun. Then you don't need to get another box. Of course it is slightly different on a Sparc when it comes to booting and low level drivers, etc...

I was talking to one of the kernel developers for BeOS, and he has a hobby: to collect different boxes. He was telling me about Solaris, and let me in on a little secret: Sun started selling Solaris for the x86 now. You can't download it.

Yes they are charging for the x86 version but 20 bucks isn't all that bad. I never said it was free (although it used to be). It's a hell of a lot cheaper than going out and buying a Sparc system, especially if you only want to play. Of course I have all versions of Solaris in boxed set CDs for both Sparc and Intel from Solaris 2.5.0 on up. No I'm not going to sell or give any away, although I should because Linux is 100 times better than Solaris for home machines and web servers. I had around 50 Sparc/Solaris machines and I am no huge fan of Solaris. I like the Sun hardware though and Solaris runs best on that hardware.
