Havent been here for awhile but I thought you guys could help me with this, today some kid in my IT Essentials class said that windows was based on unix. well me and him went rounds and I havent read or ever heard of this being even somewhat slightly true so I was wondering if you could clarify this for me.

Thanks

Enmity:
Depends how you define "based"; but IIRC windows is far from it
Windows ought to have its roots in unix a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away...

Kintaro:
Windows NT is based upon VMS, which is NOTHING like Unix.

KernelPanic:
Not really, myabe the person who told you that was confused about the fact that Windows uses BSD code for its TCP/IP stack.

Refalm:
What's so great about the BSD license anyway? Companies like just use it to slack on TCP/IP programming (they even have an /etc directory for compatibility "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc").
