Indeed. Buying a Macintosh is a large investment, and people should really think about it if it's worth the money.

Linux is a very good operating system and a great alternative to Windows, which makes Apple lose their "Switch to us if you want to get rid of Windows" attitude.

Even on the creative side of things, Linux is catching up. We have The Gimp, Blender, POV Ray, AC3d, etc., and soon, Macromedia Studio MX will have a Linux version.
It's not catching up to the Mac on the graphical industry yet, but it's on its way.

Let's face it, Linux is becomming a wider used alternative for Windows than Macintosh, just because of the price issue.
And the usually working compatibility (on an executable level, networking is fully compatible with Windows now Samba 3 has arrived) with Windows is helping a bit too.

But, Mac OS X doesn't suck. In fact, it's sometimes even better than Linux at the GUI.
Apple knows the balance between keeping it easy, but not to get in the way of the power user. And that's the balance every operating system needs (except the server editions of course  ;) ).

first, i'm not using MS software and who cares how you spell Mac, this is the linux forum and stop talking about that stupid Mac, its better than windows, but it costs to much for my wallet. And i have college linux installed, but my internet connection failes, so i'm on windows now. I'm browsing with mozilla btw to keep my mind on linux

laat ik het nu in het nederlands doen.
Ik zou heel graag constant op linux zitten, maar mijn internet verbinding werkt er niet op. Dat linux goede programma's heeft is waar. The Gimp is een perfect alternatief voor het wel zeer dure adobe photoshop an KDE en Gnome worden stilaan ook volwassen. Mac vind ik niet echt een goed alternatief voor windows, simpelweg omdat het zo duur is (dezelfde fout als bij windows) en nog een groter probleem: het is gewoon niet compatibel genoeg.

besluit: linux is het beste alternatief voor windows (vind ik persoonlijk) en ik heb dat al laten tonen door donaties te doen aan geweldige opensource projecten zoals sourceforge.net.

ik heb nu een motorola modem en ik ben telenet client. maar op mijn red hat linux kon ik perfect op het internet gaan. Alleen is het bij college linux iets moeilijker, als host adress heb ik proxy.telenet.be ingevoerd en als poort 8080, dat is toch standaard bij telenet, en bij linux zou het dus ook moeten werken.

(Telenet is verplicht te helpen bij elke internet installatie...)
Welk model van Motorola?

PS: Telenet is niet de beste optie(te duur, te traag, beperkte download en moet mij nog steeds 120 Euro betalen).

Waarom zit iedereen Mac te promoten, ik vind dat Mac echt zuigt, het kost veel en behalve de goede grafische funcies krijg je er niets voor terug. Qua systeem durf ik zelfs te zeggen dat Windows beter is dan Mac.

Linux is  nog altijd de minst bekendste maar wel de beste

Het eMac is niet duur, en is een zeer goed alternatiev.

Mac is veel gemaakelijker dan Linux of Windows, en kan veel meer (iPhoto, iMovie, Expose en anderen).
