Need distro that requires little memory and slow CPU.
flap:
Slack is simple; that's why it needs tweaking. You should be able to run any modern distro on that machine, but I wouldn't use KDE or gnome on it.

Hey folx,
I have an old PC that has a P-MMX266 and 64MB of RAM. I need some distro that will work well with those. Slack runs to slow
Any other? I want to have an X-Windows system. This will be just a test (fuck around) machine.

Hmm, that's a bit difficult. Not that this machine is too old but KDE and GNOME have gotten bigger and "heavier". You could use another much lighter Window Manager like Xfce, Enlightenment etc though.

Well I use mandrake on my 200 mhz with 64mb ram. That and I use kde 3.1. I wont say it isnt slow, but it works. I have no trouble running LimeWire, Ogle, XMMS, Mozilla or anything else. I even can play bzflag and tuxracer as smooth as silk. Now Im working on Unreal Tournament too. Just because the box is old doesnt mean it is useless.

think *BSD......
if you can get all the hardware working under one, you will be very very very happy
/*on that note im using slackware 9 at this moment, waiting for a faster computer and freebsd 5.x stable*/
and on that note, i run kde 3.0 under redhat 8.0 on my thinkpad 600,
