i am going to get linux for the first time. what would be the best distro to start out with?

Mandrake of Red Hat most likely.

debian or slackware i'd say.
depends on what sort of person you are and what you want linux to do for you.

slack or debian for starting?? nah, i'd say redhat 8, that's what i'm using now and i like it

i was thinking about red hat but 5 isos will be murder on dialup. thanks for the suggestions. my cousin seems to have a lot of good things to say about red hat. i think i will wait till my next pay check and just buy the red hat cds.
