adduser and passwd
TheQuirk:
# adduser new_username
and
# passwd new_username
apply to all Unix systems, correct?
Master of Reality:
thats the new fangled way....
You could just edit /etc/passwd and add the users manually

Most *NIXs have either an "adduser" or "useradd" command but the parameters to the command may differ. Also most proprietary *NIXs have graphical user management tools (I always use command line of course).
TheQuirk:
sigh.. I'll just add it under "all unices" in the FAQ.
Calum:
for these 'all unices' things, it might be a good idea to check at unix.com and do a search, since users of most if not all unices seem to frequent that board. somebody asks something about unix, you get six different *NIX specific answers! Also, might be an idea to say which ones have adduser only, which ones have useradd only and which ones have both. I heard that some of sun's systems have only useradd, and some of the BSDs have only adduser, or am i totally off the beam there? Might be a good idea to check these 'all unices' things with some unix savvy OSX users on this board too. Those people will come in really useful with this FAQ i think.
also, re GUI, i honestly think that would just confuse the issue with something as simple as adduser.
Incidentally, is there any short easy to use URL for the faq? i think i have got www.faqfuckmicrosoft.tk if you want it, also, i think if we get a .com for it, it should be www.faqmicrosoft.com which i think will get a lot of hits from microsofties and windoids, who will see easy answers to stuff they had previously filed in the 'too difficult' folder of their "minds", also it will be a play on the name o fthis site, and it will have the bonus of not having explicit swearing, and so will not frighten away otherwise sensible prudes.
What do you think?
