red hat 9 vs mandrake 9.1
new2linux55:
Which would u all prefer......?
Im chooseing to install one or the other.
Any ideas ?
smokey:
i haven't used either (!) but RedHat 8 is quite good as well as Mandrake 9.
I found RedHat's support to be a little better (as in getting drivers to install) than Mandrake - however 9.1 may have changed that.
Faust:
Mandrake 9.1 in my opinion...
I recomend it for so many reasons, but one of the main ones is the disghusting lack of pre installed media support in Red Hat 8. Might have changed by now, but if you're installing a linux OS for the first time you dont want to config up a new video player or mp3 codec straight away so you want them preinstalled... also mandrake seems to come with more nice stuff on the cds and i dislike the front end to rpm that red hat comes with...
although red hat does seem more "refined" than mandrake.
edit : install both, a little while after the other then you can choose for yourself which is better. ;)

Siplus:
as far as redhat and mandrake go, i've tried RH7.2, RH8, RH9 and mandrake8.2.
as you can see, i favor redhat , so i can't really give you a fare comparison. i'd say go with redhat9, because i have it and i'm happy with it, but i'm partial so take that into consideration
TheQuirk:
Get Mandrake. It's built around KDE, a much more polished product that Gnome. Also, it has great GUI configuration tools, comes with mp3 support out of the box, and is generally what people go with when they want to try Loonix.
