I just lost my harddisk after deleting Gentoo...
I can't acces it with anything.
I have tried it with fdisk(both Linux and DOS) and in Knoppix.
But they all can't acces it...

Can those things really be gone?

Did you check under the couch? That's where I always lose things.

Can the BIOS see it? if it can, you might want to try a low level format (unless you are starving to spare any data, but i'm sure you've made backups) You should be able to get a boot disk from your hard drive manufacturer to do this.

askani:
Look and see if your hard disk jumper is set to the  appropriate (master/single/slave) position. If your BIOS can detect it you should be able to work with that. And check around for Partition Magic floppies,  it's great from messing around with partitions and such.

sime:
Hi,

try this.

Make a bootable DOS disk.
Put a copy of fdisk on it.
Boot the PC from the disk.
At the A> prompt type ...
A>fdisk c: /mbr

Hope it woks.

Later

Sime

Well euhm, I did find about 5 Euro under my couch, but no hard drive...
Luckily my hard-ware vendor didn't placed the same hard drive as listed on the bill.
So they had to give me a new one.

thx,
insomnia
