LFS : So can i just download the parts i need or do i have to download it all and install the only the parts i need?

looks like you must read through the instructions and decide for yourself whether you need each package or not.

You might prefer to use BYO Linux.org which has a list of required/optional files to give you more of a clue of what you need/want/don't need to download.
