I didn't get to try the Guillemot in Linux, as soon as I noticed the loss of performance I replaced the card with a Terratec, and at the time I didn't have Linux yet.
I you want I could send you my config files, I spent a lot of time tweaking them to get the maximum amount of frames.
We talked about our configs a lot on the XS Reality forums and I don't think somebody had a faster config than mine.
You can actually download it from my profile on the XSR site.

I had some problems with my soundcard and return to castle wolfenstein ... killing artsd helped...

Already did that, didn't help.
I also read some things about people being able to play with sound as root but not as user, tried that too but even as root I don't have sound, so it's not a permission issue.

hmmmm, then your soundcard is not good enough, i have a few of the same. i don't know what is with quake 3 that it doesn'tlike certian soundcards, maybe someone else would know.
