SCO Threatens Red Hat and SuSE
edisav:
I wouldn't be surprised if "Your Gateness" filthy bad boy Billy is behind it!

Someone on Slashdot made the connection: SCO had ties long ago with Microsoft. Read the comments, it's one of the top ones, I think.
Also, I hate seeing Caldera/SCO like this... They sold me my first distro (which really wasn't bad for its time) and put up with me with my newbie questions on their tech support line regarding even the dumbest issues.
SpeeDFreaK:
The U.S. patent system is screwed. They allow people to sit on the asses and watch their patents (I'm not even sure if there's any SCO code in linux, maybe some of the concepts, but...) become standards. And when they need cash "Hey everybody! I have this patent! Pay me or get raped in court!" 1 of 2 things need to happen:
1. Reform the patent system in the states and keep the money the system makes to make the process faster and less costly, seeing as the funds from the patent system fund other parts of the government. (Not too likely to happen.)
2. We need a publicly sponsored death squad who goes after people and companies who pull off this kind of bullshiat and...y'know, do their thing...take em out. :D
I honestly hope it doesn't get to point #2, but with the way things are going I dunno.

If this keeps up we will all be running Caldera.
SCO was in united Linux with Connectiva SuSE and Turbo. As soon as the law suit came up SuSE said that they were currently reconsidering there relationship with SCO. Frankly I would rather be tied in with IBM than SCO.
SCO is saying that IBM gave SuSE trade secrets and code. How can IBM give SuSE trade Secrets when they are in development programs with SCO?!
