kernel headers - again

<< < (2/3) > >>

foobar:
Since i short time i started using google as my no.1 search engine, so when i said "kernel headers" for mandrake +"2.4.8-26mdk" in google, it came up with all the kernel shite from rpmfind.net.
But it has a broken link, and i couldn't download them.
Now i tried bigsearch.nl, my previous no.1 search engine, and he found it ! On a mirror that looks just like rpmfind.net, but does have the file !

hail bigsearch !

http://www.bigsearch.nl

(Sorry to annoy people with my overreacted happyness, but if this works i only need windoze to play need for speed 2  :D   :D   :D )

voidmain:
Good, I don't know why it's not listed on the rpmfind.net site. I go there for all my stock RPMS for RedHat.  Looks like they aren't quite up to snuff on the Mandrake RPMS. I downloaded the Mandrake Kernel source and it looks like it would have been a pain in the arse to build it on a RedHat box so I am glad you found it.

voidmain:
Hey foobar, I know it's kinda late now but I just remembered I had the Mandrake 8.1 CD ISO Images on my server.  So I mounted up the first ISO and sure enough, the file you were looking for is there plain as day.  Stick the first Mandrake CD into the drive and mount it then do an:

ls /mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS/kern*

You should see the kernel-headers-2.4.8-26mdk.i586.rpm there.

foobar:
No matter void, thanks anyway,
'cuz now i have the headers, but the ./build_module file is being a bitch.

When it starts compiling the lt_modem.o and another .o file i forgot, gcc says:
#error kernel-headers should never be used for blahblah

If it may help you figure it out, i'll get the full error message out of my linux box.

I'll take a peek @ linmodems.org, and see if they can help me.

foobar:
I am so freakin' happy.

I checked linmodems.org, which provided a link called 'mandrake' somewhere. So i clicked on it, and i landed up on an FTP server with lotsa precompiled ltmodem.o packages on it, including the one for my kernel !!!
I could simply do modprobe lt_serial and then
ln -s /dev/modem /dev/ttySLT
and now it works !

I am typing this in konqueror ... the divine feeling of being free of windoze ...
I can quake and i can 'net under linux, for me that's enough.

Exept for Need for Speed 2  :D

Thanks alot guys !! (Void)
