Bigger Pain: Windows or FC2?

and it is not as if anyone if denying people choice here. SuSE, Linspire, Mandrake, Libranet et al all come with flash, java and all that chuff. People like RedHat and to a greater extent the Debian guys have always been dedicated to being completely free, and as such other solutions exist on the market for those who aren't interested in this stance.
ie Joe Average user.

No-one is arguing that. The reasons for using free over proprietary software are primarily political/ethical, not necessarily practical.

Allot of that stuff you have mentioned does come out of the box.  Stuff like Mp3's and DVD support would not due to copywrites and stuff.  Pluse those things that do not come out of the box in linux doesn't for windows eather
