I do not like redhat 8. RedHat is my favorite distro. RedHat 7.3 specifically. I didn't like the boot loader for mandrake and a few of the gui things. But that's just personal preference and can be changed easily. I would suggest mandrake because it's easy to install and if you dont like the gui, change it. I'm sure the screen shots you've seen were not the default settings. If you think you can handle a slightly more complicated installation, I'd go with redhat 7.3, or wait until 9 and see what it's like.

whats wrong with redhat 8?   :confused:

is it because i use it?

i was even recomending it, but yes RH9 should be even better.

far out people, stop bagging slack.

Dont make assumptions, slack is extremely easy to set up, very fast too, and is good experience.

Slack 9 is very good, very easy (god so what if it has a text install) and very fast, comes with every GUI around all the programs all the multimedia shit.

Very user friendly.

yeah, fuck off!

<clears throat>

sorry, but i agree, it took me a long time to try out slackware simply because of all the moaners who said it was harder to use than a lot of other linuces. in fact i even tried debian first because so many people said it was great and slack was unnecessarily difficult, which is a pile of horse doodoo.

I suggest downloading the ISO image(s), burning them on CDs and testing Linux out. If you like it, then go out and buy the box version.

i just installed slack9 a few days ago, but i've been so busy i haven't gotten a chance to use it yet!! i don't know how any distro can be considered 'harder' then any other. it just depends on what version of GNOME or KDE you have (or the other ones). from first look, i like the gnome from rh8 better then from slack9, so i might have to upgrade my slack gui
