Where I can find a free vers of Lindows any help?
Calum:
yep, a lot of these guys say Debian is one of the best these days. For a while a lot of people said SuSE, and my favourite is mandrake (though i haven't tried suse or debian). You'll find a lot of people tell you to get red hat too, which is a very mainstream distro (so you will find fixes and so on for it that tad easier).
flap:
quote:If you mean free as in warez, you're an idiot who doesn't know what piracy does to the software industry.
--- End quote ---
Are you serious?
voidmain:
Yes he is. Pirating is one of the reasons M$ is a monopoly today. I can explain if you like, but I have explained it several times previously. You might want to check some of the older threads...
flap:
While the distribution of Microsoft (and non-Free in general) software, unauthorised or otherwise, is ultimately a bad thing, I don't believe (though I could be mistaken) that this is the point he was making. And it's unfortunate that he used the propaganda term "piracy."
voidmain:
I see. I think I sort of agree with you. Is the term warez appropriate? I believe it is. But he didn't know that the original poster was looking for a legit beta version. And the original poster didn't know that that program is no longer available for free. Lindows contains a lot of non free/Free code along side of a lot of free/Free code, which is doubly bad in my opinion. They are putting proprietary icing on the open source cake and making a profit of which none of the open source cake makers are seeing any cut from. Now the writers of the open source code didn't ask for a cut but I have to believe that most of them would see it as a slap in the face. And the type of users that would use this would just think that Lindows wrote the entire thing. And to top it off, it's a crappy product. How can you put something out that defies the most basic security rules? No thanks...
Of course maybe I am still misunderstanding the intent of his post... I'm not the sharpest tack in the box...
