i have seen screen shots of photoshop 6 or 7 on a linux desktop - im not sure where though. also - is there a difference between WINE and WINEx??

Yes winex tries to impliment directx support and other things for the purpose of running games. It is a branch of the wine project but all of transgaming developments are for the running of cames, therefore wine is better for normal apps.
Find out more about winex here and here.

It's only PS5.5, but then again you can't expect the world.
The most valuable thing you can do if you want Photoshop is to e-mail Adobe specifically informing them of that.
It is within their capability to do it, but these people are interested in money. Just as BT want to see lots of people wanting *DSL at a telephone exchange to make the investment in an upgrade, adobe want to know there are linux users wanting and willing to pay for a linux port of their apps.
I'm no great fan of closed source apps where they can be avoided, but I understand in some situations they are necessary.
So my friend, you contact Adobe, and request acknoledgement of you e-mail - don't want to be ignored

i cannot emphasise enough how important this is. EMAIL ADOBE and macromedia too while you are at it, and tell them to get their stuff ported to linux! how will they know there's a demand if everybody is always using wineX and not emailing them? use wineX and do email them instead! (or just use the gimp instead, which is what i would do, but then i am not very graphically oriented)
