LINUX READY FOR PRIME TIME, FORRESTER SAYS
http://www.iseriesnetwork.com/nwn/story.cfm?ID=15578Although only 9 percent of Global 3,500 companies have completed a
Linux implementation, according to Forrester Research numbers, this
trend is about to change, the analyst group says. According to a
Forrester report released in October, Linux has reached key
milestones that make it a formidable competitor to higher priced
Unix boxes. Chiefly, the operating system is gaining the respect of
software vendors, with big names such as J.D. Edwards, Oracle, and
SAP porting their products to the open-source OS. Plus, Linux
vendors have taken more steps to standardize their releases, and the
Penguin platform has gained many more options for professional
services.
