Bazoukas:
I dont see the need of you bying a new Laptop unless you have money to spare.

I bought a used Laptop inspiron3500. It runs a 356 celeron. It came with Win95. I installed RH 7.3 in it and it runs beautifully (both on Gnome and KDE).
THe onl problem I had was with the Sound card. But that is fixable by a)downloading a patch or b)Changing the IRQ setting.

Any thoughts? basically i'm asking for links to some sort of database that will tell me how compatible the sound/video cards are and so on, with linux. it is a pentium so i know that mandrake 9.0 will be able to be installed on it. Also, i can set up a dual boot with windows 3.11 (!)
thanks, chaps.

edit - well this page and this page are the only ones i can really see on google about this laptop, well actually this one's not quite the same, and they at least suggest that red hat 5 will run on it graphically...

This one i should be able to look up myself, but as always, if anybody knows of any quirks...

Of course there are a lot more of this sort of thing on eBay, does anybody know a good way to check how compatible a particular laptop is with linux other than just typing the model into google with the word 'linux' appended?

Thanks...

Master of Reality:
cool.... i was gonna post something about finding Linux Laptops...

Calum:
please do! these are all windows 3 or windows 95 laptops to my knowledge, so i think i have to BUY ONE before i know if it's a 'linux laptop' unfortunately...

hey, what's the difference between windows 3.11 and windows 95?

the difference is 91.89...
