Win modems are great lightning and surge protectors. When the bolt hits, all of their little resistors blow apart like firecrackers. If you are really lucky, it won't fry your motherboard too.

LOL - But don't you have to put that 'winmodem' somewhere on the beginning of your mainboard, so that the hazardous current will firstly blow it ?
I think it'd kill your pc's power supply anyway ....

I've had my modem fry because my phone line at my old house would sometimes "shock" it.
