SCO's lawsuit could eventually destroy Linux!
« on: 17 May 2003, 23:48 »
I believe that SCO is in such finacial trouble that this is their lottey ticket, although I believe that M$ someway somehow is behind this.

SCO mentions that they also have new products, yeah...as if someone is going to buy from them!

Here's an interview with SCO's Chris Sontag:

You can't destroy Linux! You can stop it from winning the war against MS by losing corporate and desktop appeal, but that is all.

As we all know SCO has been distributing Linux also for awhile, and they are a UnitedLinux partner (I'm not a fan of UnitedLinux, less now than ever, which is saying something). They have distributed Linux; naturally under the General Public License. This creates a huge argument of whether, in their openness, they have already clobbered their lawsuit, after all, any source code from UNIX that made it's way into Linux has been distributed by the owner of the intellectual property under the GPL, an open source license. Hell, they gave us the right to have it. Those stupid SOBs. Not that I believe that they actually have found code from UNIX in Linux, they are FUDing us. I wish I would've been told about the DoS attack, I wouldv'e helped.

IBM has a lot invested in linux, I don't think they'll let this go without a fight.  And they have gobs of cash (more the SCO, unless MS is really behind this)

Oh trust me you can copyright anything.  On the front of my friends HTML book is the phrase "makes learning simple."  And it's trademarked.

There are actualt IP in the Linux Kernel that IBM put in for some reason, I think it has somthing to to with Multiprocessor (im not sure at all, it was on slashdot after all).

Except SCO (Stupid Compyright Operation) didnt ask nicely or anything they moved in a unit of suits (crazily enough against an army of suits).

Usually I would defend the little guy, but not FUCKING IDIOTS.

And remeber that "TheKnifeThrower" is an offical SCO worker ;).

The big news of this morning is that Microsoft will evidently be licensing the Unix code that SCO carries the rights to. Yahoo! is also carrying a brief WSJ report as well. Additionally, give a read to the OSI position paper on the issue. One thing that is worth noting is that Microsoft does do *some* work with Unix - like the interoperability package - but the other side is that Microsoft deals with intellectual property a lot, and licensing is standard way of dealing with IP claims.

FILTH.  Now I know who's paying SCO off.

good luck brothers! i fear this battle will be the biggest linux has ever faced, and i know we will stand together and not let corporate greed foil our plans for an open world of computing.
