Hey gang, anyone know where a student might download a solaris (intel) 8 or 9 iso from...at a student price...as in free. :)

Heru:
no damn clue.
Sun took the Solaris 8 intel downloads donw a few months ago, and they probably won't release 9 for intel either.

I've been wondering where to get it as well.
All I can reccomend is to do a web search on Google and hope to have better luck than I did.

voidmain:
Well, they *used* to let you download the Intel version for free. You can still download Solaris 8 x86 but at a charge of $20. They didn't put out an x86 version of Solaris 9 but if you happen to have a Sparc machine lying around you can download Solaris 9 for Sparc (single processor version) for free.  Other than that, I have a copy of Solaris 7 x86 which I did download from Sun for free. I can not give you a copy according to the free binary license agreement.  Still, $20 isn't all that much for Sun to ask in my opinion.

It's "like" UNIX.

Thanks guys, I will try to ... "find an iso".  I agree with VoidMain $20 is a fair price...but I was hoping for a student price.  Which brings me to my rant, why isn't there legal student discounts for most OS's and SDK's and what-not for the computer students.  Borland does have a Kylix version for students at reduced prices.

Whats holding the rest back.  I guess they want the next generation of geeks to only be familiar with Linux/BSD. Wasn't the liberal licensing of Unix at universities the reason it became so popular?

I will "post" my Solaris iso results when I have some.
