X-box and Linux
« on: 20 September 2003, 21:55 »
When i use RedHat linux 9.0 on my computer i cant get on x-box live. This is my network: I have the DSL going into one NIC on my computer and then it goes to my hub threw another NIC. Then it goes to my x-box. On the network settings the DSL is set to automatically detect the settings and on the other network card the settings are 192.168.0.1 and 255.255.255.0. the DNS is 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3. On my X-box it is 192.168.0.2 and 255.255.255.0 and the gateway is 192.168.0.1. The DNS is set to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2. It says that the IP settings are being seen and when it tries to connect to the internet it wont let me. When i go into windows it works perfectly fine. Why is it giving me these problems only in LINUX.

My expert opinion. Toss some more NIC's, and at least 1 router in there. Then you're sure to never get online ever again.   ;)

Some clarification. So it goes from DSL->PC->Hub->Xbox?

And when you run Linux on the PC in the middle you can't connect the X-box.

dont set the xbox to auto-detect, set the stuff manually unless your ISPs DHCP server is available to it (which it isn't, because your computer is in the way)... i'd have the internet go strait to the hub and then connect the internet-using machines into the hub... i see no point in having it go through a computer.
