what should i get?

All you people and your easy installs, bah!

Everytime I tried to install RH 8.0 or Mandrake 9.0 on my HD (complete install no dual boot), I either got a kernel panic: no init found and it wouldn't load, or it wouldn't install my vid card and thus I could not start xwindows *sigh*
