Comparing all the *nix's

(1/2) > >>

Im not sure if this has been done before. Could some people here create a list of all the pros and cons of each different *nix? There is susposed to be so many i'd be curious about them. Like what if there is something far better then Linux even that is a hidden jewel in the rough.

Perhaps for a listed pro or con you could also but a * next to some of them detonating "grey area". Grey area means this pro/con is debateable and to a certain extent falls into a matter of opinion and preference.

This sound ok? Please...

283 linux distributions listed with a small summary for each one.

Errr actually I was imagining Linux as being one single topic, not a subcategory. Is it even possible to compare LINUX in the same way you would compare are those other things like FreeBSD, Darwin, Unix etc.? If not, would it be possible to sum up the 200+ linux distros as several different "styles"?

The point of this topic was less to do with the different Linux's and more to do with all the *nix's. Still, much thanks for the link MOR.

To the moderators, I made a thread typo, could you change it from "compared" to "comparing"? This would make the topic less misleading.

I'd really love to learn about the different *nix's just for fun(and curiosity).

Master of Reality:
ahhhh... comparing things like solaris, unix, linux, BSD, and so on.
