RedHat 8.0

(1/1)

Pantso:
Have a look at this interesting view of RedHat's new GUI policy. RedHat decided that in order to make a Linux distro more user friendly, they would have to standardize the desktop first thus giving KDE and GNOME a unified look and appearance.

CAUTION: NOT FOR LINUX PURISTS  :D   Just joking  :D

only the default theme and style has changed. We can still change it to look any way we want after install.

According to what's read in the article, anyone can change the default theme and style and everything back to what suits ones needs and likes. That's what makes RedHat a pioneer in the world of Linux: clever solutions even for desktop users and TRUE innovations  ;)

I can't wait until it hits the market and although I expect it to be a bit buggy, as is the case with almost every *.0 release, I'm dying to test it

I like the idea too. This way RedHhat will keep both Linux fundamentalists happy as well as newbies coming to Linux from Windows

They will also deliver a strong blow to the so called friendly "Linux" distro, Lindows and to those who wish to satisfy their financial ambitions through the world of open source.

I might change my mind as well with regard to RedHat, i was recommended it once but i thought it was not for me and opted for Mandrake which FUBARED my HDD at the time.  I then tried SuSE 7.3 which was okay but without the net or the fact it didn't configure my laptop screen properly i couldn't use it for long.

Lycoris and Gentoo are now on my list of "trying to download off 56k because local magazines have not put it on a cover CD for me to try and i cannot get DSL!"

Anyway last i looked, i was on 42% with DAP from linuxiso, so maybe wednesday i will get Lycoris!  :D

Its nice RedHat are taking a lead in this, i do prefer KDE over Gnome (horrible in my opinion) so i don't understand why they didn't just stick with one of the existing 2 like Lycoris has and make another instead.  But i suppose there is an advantage to having your own GUI.
