sound help

Master of Reality:
i am trying to install the ALSA sound drivers but i'm having trouble.
I installed the driver, then when i install the ALSA libs, it says that it cant find the driver (i am assuming that it is looking in the wrong directory), so is there anyway i can chane where it looks for the driver??
