Moving to Linux fom winblows
Chrono:
Hi, I'm new here. I am really pissed off about Windows 98 crashing all the time, so I am planning on switching to Linux.
I have played around with linux on my old computer and I think I am ready to install it on my main computer.
I am planning to install the latest Red Hat distro. The only problem I have is getting all the computer games to work on Linux. I heard you can port 32bit windows game using WINE. I just need to be able to play Quake III, Half-Life, and Unreal Tournament at LAN parties. And everyone else has Windows box. Does anyone know if I would be able to play those games at LAN parties against windows box using Linux?
Also, I have GeForce4 MX and does it work good on Linux? I dont want my video card's power going to waste.
Any help would be appreciated. Even a little piece of info could help me get away from evil Microsoft.
Ctrl Alt Del 123:
Get a free copy of Windows 2000 and do a dual boot with Linux. Atleast 2000 is JUST an OS, not have a million extra "features" that suck ass that comes with XP.
Also, I think Half Life has a Linux version.
Chrono:
Bah, if I can afford Win2k, I will just use that. Its pretty stable. Did you say free?
Master of Reality:
by "free" he means "pirated".
but.... you can get unreal tournament and quake for Linux. And run Half-Life using WineX. WineX is Wine with directX.

I'd have to agree with Ctrl, just download Win2k and dual boot it with one of the more user friendly Linux distros like Mandrake or Redhat. Then you can evaluate both OSes in a stable enviroment and determine which is best suited to your needs, after that, simply kill the partition(s) containing the OS you no longer want and use PartitionMagic to resize the leftover one to cover the entire HD.
