A good distro for a legacy machine?

sorry to not answer yr question (wait for mr x, he's the beos advocate), but peanut linux is another good one to fool around with on a limited hardware setup, but i still think slack/vector is more than adequate. or red hat 9 (which, though old, is still good, plus easy to use)
