Linux on PPC's. YellowDog Anyone?

Now I'm *certainly* not the smartest guy in the world but I would assume that if you did not get a response to your question then no one on this board (and there aren't all that many of us) has any experience with your question. Do you expect to get a response from everyone saying "no I have no experience, can't help you.."?  That would be more useless than no reply at all.  Have you ever heard of Google?  Or have you heard of the YDL web site?  I'm sure you would find a heck of a lot more info on that specific distro there.

Has anyone had luck with Linux on older PPC boxes with 604 chips or older? I'm looking to load a PPC Linux distro on a PowerMac 4400/200 to 'learn that Linux stuff'. I've been looking at YellowDog. Keep in mind the last time I wrote code was on an Atari 800, during the Cold War. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had some success at getting Linux PPC to run on a 120MHz PowerPC 604. However, I decided just to go back to the Mac OS, which is a much more elegant, faster solution.

i would have tried yellowdog linux on my laptop if it wasnt a powerbook 180 that didnt have a CDROM or internet acces and all i need it is for database handling and nothing else. Its small little databasses so dont worry. I got Mac OS 7.1 on it now because thats what was on it at the time.
